We are a small group of people who are trying to address the inequities in education for Black/African-American children. All children are welcome to participate, but our focus is to help Black/African-American children in particular. We are a non-profit organization.
Without placing blame, it is clear that the majority of Black/African-American children are not receiving the training and support they need to succeed in the education system. They have a Skill Gap. Many are doing exceptionally well, but many need something different that the schools are not providing.
Our children cannot wait. It is up to us to address this need. We have teamed with several groups to help provide the solution. We have gained access to a proven training program families can use at home to build the skills their children need to succeed in school. The Program page goes into more detail.
The Facts page goes into more detail about the statistics and the need for action.
We initially focus on reading success and strive to have every 3rd-grade student achieve reading proficiency, a key educational achievement milestone. However, the same program principles also apply to older students who still struggle to achieve reading proficiency. Additionally, much of the training also helps to improve learning effectiveness for other subjects such as math. Over time, we will add additional resources to help in all subjects.
Most of the training is delivered online. However, there are many things families can do together at home that can really help students to succeed. If a family does not have a computer with Internet access at home, our goal is to help these families connect so they can also benefit from access to this tool.
The good news is that most students can succeed by following the simple program principles and only need to train about 20-25 minutes daily over a 2 to 3 year period.
Imagine if most Black/African-American students achieve reading proficiency by 3rd grade and become the highest performing ethnic group in the nation. That would be a wonderful gift to our children, but we hope it can also bring more equity to educational outcomes for our children.
Over time we hope to partner with local organizations in each community to have a local presence. Please let us know if your organization can become a local partner or if you as an individual can help us to connect with potential partners in your community. Contact us
